Acknowledgements

Writing a book like this is a lot of fun. It's also a tremendous amount of work. And we couldn't possibly have completed this project without the help of a great many talented people.

First, we would like to thank our primary researcher on the project--Jim Hall. Jim worked tirelessly researching subjects of interest, collecting entries, and he even did some of the ads in the book. Our hats are off to Jim as we thank him for his time and his endless effort.

Ronda Stout did a great job working with the copy editor and proofreader to make sure that every i was dotted and t crossed, and that every one of these corrections got reliably back into our master database. Ronda also did some research, and a few ads as well. Thanks very much, Ronda.

The rest of our outstanding research team is a diverse collection of multi-talented people with expertise and interests in a wide range of topics. The unity of their diverse interests and voices have contributed significantly to make this book interesting and fun to read. They are:

Scott Rogers has done it again. Even in his new position at Osborne McGraw-Hill as Executive Editor, Scott continues to come up with the best ideas and books in the entire computer book industry. Not only does he still do acquisitions, but now Scott is filling the big shoes of the Publisher at Osborne--at least unofficially. We just hope that the corporate folks at Osborne appreciate Scott as much as we do.

As good as he is, working with Scott would be impossible without the calming influence of his assistant, Daniela Dell'Orco. The soft-spoken Daniela can take the craziest of situations and make it all make sense. We don't even mind our Monday morning beatings for not getting more work done over the weekend when Daniela is administering. Talking with Daniela on any day is a sheer delight.

Emily Rader, Project Editor Extraordinaire, faced down the daunting task of pulling this book together. This involved coordinating between us, the copy editor, the proofreader, the artists, and the production department. You might not realize it if you haven't thought about it, but producing a book like this is a long and complex process. Not only did Emily pull it all together, but she did it with style and unrivaled professionalism. Thanks Emily.

At one time or another, everyone at Osborne had a hand in making this book the success that it is. Here are just a few of them:

We thank each of them want them all to know how much we appreciate their hard work and professionalism.

Finally, we couldn't have produced this book without superior connections to the Internet. A special thanks goes to CTS Network Services, the most awesome Internet service provider this side of the Prime Meridian. The hardworking folks at CTS made sure the Net would be there while we spent tremendous amounts of time researching more pages than we could possibly include in the book.
